While I was with `Abdullah, `Uthman met him at Mina and said, "O Abu `Abdur-Rahman ! I have something to say to you." So both of them went aside and `Uthman said, "O Abu `Abdur-Rah. man! Shall we marry you to a virgin who will make you remember your past days?" When `Abdullah felt that he was not in need of that, he beckoned me (to join him) saying, "O 'Alqama!" Then I heard him saying (in reply to `Uthman), "As you have said that, (I tell you that) the Prophet once said to us, 'O young people! Whoever among you is able to marry, should marry, and whoever is not able to marry, is recommended to fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power.
This point of view is one of the primitive concept in Islam. That means it`s too much put on sexual powers and on reproduction and natural instincts. Muhammad understood the working mechanism of Arabic tribes and tried to make them in condition, ready to be used. What about the contemporary law in Islam? there is no change in it, simply because of wrong understanding, that nothing should be "changed" from the words of God. We can agree with this point only about "Quran", as it`s accepted as sacred book of Allah, through Mohammad. But about hadiths, its another question. Hadiths manage to make a simple and easy to control organisation and structure of sociaty norms. In this time that was big step, as there were laws, simply not fitting the new religion and Mohammeds goals. So it was fine to contribute them, even in smart way. He was definitely not stupid for the time and aware of what a man need! The law of marriage Islam has indirectly taken from Judaism. It is impossible to have any relation with woman, outside of legal marriage, but in this Muslims go even further. They put the obligatory veil on the women`s face. Why is that? Any society, dealing with the tabu, and the sacred, should be aware of the risks of something forbidden. Which is forbidden? Somethings, related socially as a crime, or something too much desired, in which connection could be commit crimes. That was a marriage in this time. Having in mind the natural insticts and power of the tribes, we can imagine how important was the role of "possessing woman" in this time.
