Deities

   Here is my space for study and discovering ancient mythology, Gods and Goddesses, their role in ancient lives of people. I`ll concentrate on civilizations of Egypt, Persia, Greece, Rom, India, China, Japan.

Amun Re ( The King of Gods, Father of the Pharaoh, has many temples in Upper Egypt. He is god of Sky, Air, wind and sun - often depicted with blue skin. His crystal is Turquoise, his name means "the Hidden one")

Ra (Re) (The most important Solar god in ancient Egypt. He was connected with other prominent gods like - Amun (Amun Re), Atum (Atum-Re) and Horus. He had head of falcon; his main symbols are: Solar disk, ureaus, Solar boat, Eye of Ra, Bennu bird (phoenix), Tree of life, Ben ben stone in shape of pyramid.

Hathor (Het Heru) Goddess of love, joy, fertility, motherhood; She was a sky goddess, called the Nile of the Sky (referring to the Milky way) depicted as a cow, or a woman with plaited hair, triangular face and ears of cow. She was powerful deity, her father was Ra. Her temple is in Dendera, Upper Egypt.

















Horus (Most prominent God with falcon head, symbol of the Rising Sun, Victory and defeat of Evil. Horus was son of Osiris and Isis. He battled with Seth the evil brother of Osiris, who wanted to rule the world. This battle has created many legends. Horus symbols are: double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt, eye of Horus -strong amulet protecting against evil; combined with Ra he made the powerful Ra-Horakhte)

Osiris  (Ausire, Wasir, god of the death, life and resurrection. He was son of Geb and Nut, his wife was Isis, and his sons Anubis and Horus. He was depicted with green skin, with hands in front of his chest holding flail and shepherd staff. His temple is in Abydos.)

Maat (Goddess representing principles of Truth, justice, balance in human life and universe. She was important deity and pharaohs were called "lords of Maat". All justice system in Egypt was connected with her; in the underworld she is weighing the hearts of the souls on her scales -putting on one side the heart and on another -her feather.)


























Isis - Aset (one of the main and most famous deities in Ancient Egypt, spread to many periods in history. She was goddess of moon, magic, love, fertility, motherhood, harvest, feminine power, rebirth; She took many functions of older goddesses - Hathor, Maat. Later she was associated with Greek goddesses Demeter, Persephone and Roman Ceres. The legend and "Book of Dead" tells interesting stories about how she resurrected the dead body of her husband Osiris, by collecting his pieces. Her son was Horus. She was honored also as goddess giving peace and comforting the souls of dead in after life, she was responsible of guarding the canopic jar of liver.

* Nut & Geb ~ Nut was goddess of the sky, stars and zodiac signs, specially of the night sky. She was depicted with blue robe covered with stars or with blue colored skin. She wa responsible for living and dead and for providing water to all people. Depicted usually stretched above the earth and with Geb reclining under her body, with her hands and legs forming the four pillars of world (also four elements, world directions). Geb was god-father of Osiris, Isis, Seth, Nephtys, god of Earth, underworld and dead. He is depicted with green colored skin - symbol of rebirth and spring trees - and white clothes (symbol of mummification of the body)

* Anubis -Anpu ~ was the God of underworld with head of black Jackal. He was assistant of Osiris and had the function to guard the souls of the dead. Anubis was guardian of the Scales of justice or Scales of Maat. He was weighing the heart of the souls on the scales and take role deciding where the souls will go, if they will be entered in Duat - afterlife, or their heart will be eaten by the demon -Ammit. He was son of Osiris and Nephtys. His powerful crystal is black obsidian.


























* Thoth -Djehuti - was powerful God of magic, moon, science, protector of writers religion and mysteries. He was depicted with head of bird Ibis and holding a reel pen in his hand, sometimes papyrus scrolls. Other symbols of Thoth are moon disk, palm branch, ankh. Thoth is creator of a greatest library with all kind of magical science, spells, and nature science. He was also keeper of that special library. His cult center was in Hermopolis.

* Tefnut & Shu ~ Goddess of rain, clouds, moisture, fog, moon, feminine energy with her brother and husband Shu, god of wind, air, light, sun energy, are primordial gods. They came from the spit of their father Creator - Amun Re. Both of them are depicted with lions head, holding ankh. They form the cosmic Trinity gods, who gave birth of all pantheon of important deities.

Nun -Naunet God of primordial ocean, symbolizing infinity, darkness, primal chaos before creation, hidden mysteries of birth, combination of both feminine and masculine energy. Nun created the Creator (Solar god) Atum (Re). he is presented holding the Solar boat with his raised hands. He was depicted occasionally with frog head, while Naunet had head of snake.

* Mut goddess  - Goddess mother of Egypt, associated with sky, bird vulture and lioness. She was prominent in 18th dynasty, replaced Amaunet in the Ogdoad, and took most important aspects of goddesses Wadjet and Nekhbet. Her consort was Amun and her son Khonsu. Cult center -Karnak, Thebes.
